Membership

Membership Structure

  1. Any person over the age of 18 years. This person can either own, (solely or in partnership), a property planted to wine grapes as a commercial undertaking within the Alpine Valleys Wine Region. Alternatively they may own a winemaking facility in the Region and actively purchase Alpine Valleys wine grapes for a commercial winemaking enterprise. Alternatively they are an appointed representative of such an entity. Compliance to the above will qualify to be a full member of the Association.
  2. The Entrance Fee and Annual Subscription are amounts voted upon by members at the Annual General Meeting each year, for application in the following financial period. The Annual Subscription is payable in advance by the date of the AGM in August or September each year. If a member's annual subscription is not paid by the date of the AGM, then his/her membership is deemed to have lapsed.
  3. The current membership structure allows 2 people (voting member and spouse) to attend functions organised by the Association at no charge or at a subsidised rate to members.
  4. The current membership fee structure entails an additional $50 per annum for an extra member of one vineyard (family member or partner) to receive the newsletter, and to attend functions at the subsidised rate.
  5. Associate Membership is available to individuals or organisations who are closely involved in the grape growing and winemaking industries in the region, but who do not qualify for full membership of the Association. This Associate Membership is subject to approval by the Committee.

The strategic intent of the Association remains focussed on the two key areas, namely;

  • Building stronger regional identity . The North East has growing tourism numbers thus the Association plans to enhance the quality and number of events to achieve an even greater number of people being aware of the Alpine Valleys Wine Region and its wine products. Greater attention is planned on facilitating new investment and giving encouragement to the establishment of more high quality wineries / cellar door facilities across the Region and across the adjoining four GI regions of the North East.
  • Increasing productivity of grapegrowers . In these tough times to facilitate the building up of the expertise of grape growers and winemakers in the business aspects of growing grapes competitively. Education and training programs directed at achieving greater consistency of production of quality branded wines to track alongside the building of a stronger regional identity.

 

Services and benefits of membership

  • Promotion of the Alpine Valleys as a desirable wine tourism destination. The AVV coordinates a number of collaborative promotional activities as well as coordinated advertising and publicity campaigns designed to grow awareness and recognition of Alpine Valleys grape and wine products.
  • Training of members, visitors and the wider community. The AVV facilitates technical and commercial training to foster the development of expertise within the industry and to increase demand for and awareness of Alpine Valleys grape and wine products.
  • Representation of members interests to local, state and federal government, tourism bodies, and other relevant industry bodies.
  • Information is collated and disseminated to members via regular mail outs, meetings and a monthly newsletter
  • Networking is encouraged through a regular program of social functions where members can meet to exchange ideas, experiences and information.

Membership Categories

Full Member

A Full Member is an entity that operates a vineyard in the Alpine Valleys Wine Region or a winemaking facility in the region that is actively purchasing Alpine Valleys wine grapes for a commercial winemaking enterprise and is represented by a person nominated by that entity. Any application for membership is subject to approval by the Committee.

Benefits of Full Membership

  • Eligibility to participate in all Association activities with any number of staff at member rates
  • Free listing in the annual Alpine Valleys Winegrape Directory which is mailed out to over 70 wineries
  • Facilitation of grape sales and coordination of visits to the region by wine companies
  • Receipt of monthly AVV Newsletter and all other publications and notices, including access to research findings.
  • Use of AVV wineglasses and umbrellas (pending other bookings) for promotional events.
  • Representation by the Association on wine industry and Government bodies concerned with grapegrowing, wine production and wine tourism.
  • Licensed wineries qualify for participation in Association coordinated festivals, events and regional promotions on a fee for service basis
  • Free listing of individual events within festival brochures and publicity materials (as long as the event is complementary to the festival program and consistent with AVV brand values)
  • Eligibility to participate in all AVV sanctioned training and information workshops
  • Generation of publicity for the Alpine Valleys Wine Region and its individual stakeholders
  • Access to information and assistance from the AVV executive officer
  • Fielding of enquiries about the region from the press and the public by the AVV executive officer
  • A full financial member has one vote at General Meetings of the Association
  • Reduced advertising rates in Association publications
  • Eligibility for inclusion in the Alpine Valleys section of the North East Valleys Food and Wine Guide, website and regional promotions (if additional NEV criteria is met)

Members are encouraged to offer suggestions as to how the Association can ‘value add' to their membership.

Fees for Full Membership

Fees for full membership are currently based on the area (in hectares) under vine. A full explanation of fee rates can be found on the Membership Application Form.

It should also be noted that wineries are requested to contribute up to a maximum of 12 bottles of wine to the AVV's promotional stock for the year. This will be called upon when required.

Associate Member

An Associate Member is an entity or person who is a supplier to or associate of the regional wine industry, but does not own vineyard or a winery in the Alpine Valleys Wine Region, is not otherwise eligible for full membership and in the case of an entity is represented by a person nominated by that entity. Membership is granted at the discretion of the Committee.

Benefits of Associate Membership

  • Receipt of monthly AVV Newsletter and all other publications and notices, including access to research findings
  • Eligibility for one person per associate membership to participate in all Association activities at member rates
  • Eligibility to participate in all AVV facilitated training and information workshops
  • Networking opportunities with full members
  • Reduced advertising rates in Association publications

Fees for Associate Membership

Associate membership is available for a flat fee of $85.00 plus GST.

Affiliate Member

An affiliate member is an entity operating a tourist oriented business within the Alpine Valleys and is represented by a person nominated by that entity and must be committed to raising the profile of the Alpine Valleys as a desirable wine food tourism destination. Membership is granted at the discretion of the Committee.

Benefits of Affiliate Membership

  • Opportunity to host individual events under the umbrella of AVV festivals eg Alpine Valleys Gourmet Weekend in January (as long as the event is complementary to the festival program and consistent with AVV brand values – Committee discretion reserved)
  • Free listing of above events in AVV festival brochures and publicity materials.
  • Or free business listing in AVV festival brochures including business name, website, phone and location. (eg accommodation provider listed as “Preferred Accommodation”, restaurant or adventure business listed as “Regional Attractions”)
  • Participation in Association coordinated festivals, events and regional promotions on a fee for service basis (such as the new Mountain Fresh Festival in July).
  • Receipt of monthly AVV Newsletter and all other publications and notices, including access to research findings
  • Eligibility for one person per affiliate membership to participate in all Association activities at member rates
  • Representation by the Association on wine industry and Government bodies concerned with grape growing, wine production and wine tourism.
  • Eligibility to participate in all AVV sanctioned training and information workshops
  • Networking opportunities with full members
  • Reduced advertising rates in Association publications

Fees for Affiliate Membership

Affiliate membership is available for a flat fee of $150.00 plus GST.
